About the Project
Illustrating Time to Explore Castles meant stepping into a world of moats, drawbridges and great halls, and bringing Cyril the Castle Cat to life as the young reader’s guide through it all.
Each page gave me the chance to hide something new for children to spot, including three white mice tucked somewhere on every spread, alongside blacksmiths, knights, and an epic banquet scene.
I chose a rich colour palette to make every scene feel warm and inviting rather than austere. It was a fantastic challenge to mix history with a touch of humour to create an engaging book for young kids.
